Types of Membership
Firefighter Membership
Performs firefighting duties, including all types of fire, motor vehicle accidents, hazmat, and rescue incidents. Member is required to obtain Fundamentals of Firefighting (SCFA 1152) within one year of membership. Member must also obtain Firefighter I within two years and Firefighter II within three years of membership. Equipment issued will be: pager, door key, turnout gear, traffic vest, and forestry gear (if available). Member must attend at least two meetings per month and will also be privileged to all department benefits.
Rescue Membership
Provides technical rescue services to the Cowpens Fire District and any other district upon their request. Member must obtain at least one technical discipline the CFD provides before membership. A second discipline must be obtained within one year of membership to the team. Members will be issued: rescue coveralls, helmet, door key, and will receive dispatches via text message to personal cell phone. Must attend a mandatory monthly rescue meeting (exceptions are provided). Member will receive worker's compensation insurance, accident and sickness insurance, and will be able to attend yearly Christmas dinner. Member will not have 1% voting rights.
Support Services
Provides support to fire and rescue personnel on scene of an incident. This includes photographers, personnel providing rehab support. No training is required for this membership type. Member will be issued CFD shirt, traffic vest, door key, and will receive dispatches via personnel cell phone. Member is required to attend monthly business meeting. All privileges of the department are received. Member will not have 1% voting rights.
Medical/First Responder
Provides first response during medical calls and during fire incidents. Member is required to obtain first responder certification or higher within the first year of membership. Member will be issued CFD shirt, traffic vest, and door key. Member must attend monthly business meeting. Member will not have 1% voting rights.
Fire Explorer (Age 15 to 18th Birthday)
Attend SC Fire Academy classes as allowed through the explorer program. Member will be issued turnout gear, traffic vest, pager, and door key. Member must attend at least two meeting a month and will be privileged to all department benefits.
